As our Tavern is located in the oldest part of Dublin, the following ancient monuments are within walking distance. Christchurch Cathedral, which was founded over 1,000 years ago by the Danish King, Sitric III. Strongbow, the famous Norman Earl and warrior, is buried there. Archbishop Lawrence O'Toole, the patron saint of Dublin City, was consecrated Bishop of Dublin in the cathedral. In 1487 Lambert Simnel, the Yorkist Pretender to the throne of England, was crowned as King Edward VI, as a rival to Henry VII. St. Patrick's Cathedral which stands some 500 yards away, and was dedicated on March 17th in 1191 as a cathedral. It has withstood the attacks by the soldiers of Edward Bruce, and the warring feuds of the Geraldines and Butlers, and the desecration wrought by Cromwellians. The cathedral contains many items of interest, the ancient image of St. Patrick, the cross which stood over his well. The old pulpit from which Dean Swift so often preached, the same Dean's famous incsription for his own tomb, and that in commemoration of the inseparable Stella. Werburgh's Church is no less than 30 yards away and was founded in the 12th century. On the flagged stone floor of the centre aisle, lies Napper Tandy's bell, struck in his honour for his work and courage in the Rebellion of 1798.
Dublin Castle stands some 300 yards away, and has contributed famous, and infamous, history to his country. Audeon's Church is some 600 yards away, one of the oldest city churches in these islands.
